Solstice

summer’s breath

blistering sunrise

glowing still

long past day

simmering into sunset

lengthening shadows

For today’s #TankaTuesday Challenge, I tried a Shadorma, a Spanish 6-line syllabic poem that uses the syllables 3/5/3/3/7/5. The theme for today’s challenge was “The Longest Day”, which immediately filled my mind with images of sunshine, beaches, and summer. This particular photo is from our family trip to the Virginia Beach area last year, but I’m sure I have many other sunrise-over-beach shots that I’ve taken over the years. And I undoubtedly have a few sunset ones as well. I think something about a beach compels me to take a photo, especially with the sun slipping on the horizon. Do you share this compulsion? Do you prefer sunrises or sunsets?

  1. This reminds me of many a ‘beachy’ vacation. Semi local and others in different states or countries….
*I drift off with soft sand under my bare feet taking in ocean breezes, while I comb the beach for treasures in the fading light…* ~Thank you.
